Why Upgrade your Suspension?
We get asked “Why would I upgrade the suspension on my brand new 4WD?”
From the factory, most new 4WD vehicles are tuned for comfort during on road driving. Once weight is added, in the form of accessories and cargo, and road conditions deteriorate, performance and reliability of your 4WD suffers.
Quality, application specific, aftermarket suspension is designed to increase load carrying capability and improve both vehicle handling and comfort across all terrains, whilst providing increased ground clearance to better tackle more challenging terrain. Unlike some other accessories, you’ll notice the benefits of a new suspension system every time you drive your vehicle.
Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorbers
Where the purpose of a spring is to carry the load of a vehicle and its cargo, a shock absorber works to control the spring by absorbing excess energy and, in doing so, has a profound impact on your vehicle’s ride and handling.
During the development of OME’s Nitrocharger Sport shock absorbers, particular focus is placed on how well they are matched to the specific springs they’ll be controlling, with Ride Control Engineers tailoring shock absorber valving to work with the different springs in the range, often resulting in multiple shock absorber options for each vehicle.
Whether it’s for work or play, ARB has a solution for just about any application.
Nitrocharger Sport Advantage
The Nitrocharger Sport range utilises significant advances in key componentry and the latest in valving technology to provide tremendous improvements in ride, comfort and handling over all terrains.
Vehicle specific valving ensures the proper valving is matched to your spring selection, accessory fitment and load carrying requirements, meaning there’s a Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorber to suit your needs, no matter what the terrain or intended vehicle use. Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorbers offer the most cohesive, balanced and finely tuned valving system on the market.
BP-51 (Bypass 51mm Diameter Bore) Shock Absorbers
The new BP-51 range of high performance, bypass shock absorbers is the result of an exhaustive development process aimed at delivering the ultimate in both comfort and control.
Designed, developed and tested entirely in-house by ARB’s team of Old Man Emu ride engineers, BP-51 shock absorbers are vehicle specific and utilise existing mounting locations to provide easy installation without the need for additional vehicle modification.
Unlike most other adjustable shock absorbers, which provide adjustment for compression only, the BP-51 range allows on vehicle, independent adjustability of both rebound and compression to offer class leading ride customisation that can be tailored to individual vehicle or trip requirements.
Bypass Technology
In addition to the velocity sensitive damping used in most shock absorbers, where the faster the piston moves, the higher the level of damping is generated, BP-51 shock absorbers also generate damping dependent on the position of the piston within the shock absorber’s body via their bypass design.
While most shock absorbers only generate damping based on fluid flowing through the piston, the BP-51 offers an alternative path from one chamber to the other, around the piston in the form of bypass passages. Some fluid flows through the piston and some fluid bypasses around the piston in the bypass passages.
This results in an ability for the shock absorber to provide the best of both worlds, with a comfortable and compliant ride during normal driving and a more controlled ride over more challenging terrain. With greater levels of damping generated at each end of the stroke, the piston slows as it approaches full compression and extension, preventing harsh topping out against the bump stop and allowing larger bumps and corrugations to be absorbed more easily.
Old Man Emu Springs
When undertaking remote area travel, the need to carry sufficient fuel, water, vehicle spares and safety equipment invariably means that your 4WD will be fully loaded, placing a lot of strain on suspension components. Combine this with punishing off road conditions, and the limitations of standard springs soon become apparent.
Whether it’s coils, leaves or torsion bars, Old Man Emu springs are designed to improve the load carrying capability of your 4WD, allowing you to tackle more challenging terrain with confidence.
Leaf Springs
Old Man Emu leaf springs are engineered to provide optimum ride performance irrespective of the operating conditions in which they operate.
Numerous spring options are available to suit a multitude of applications, allowing you to set your vehicle up for recreational or commercial purposes. Feature packed, a set of Old Man Emu leaf springs, matched to a set of Old Man Emu 4×4 shock absorbers will deliver vastly improved ride, handling and load carrying capability.
Coil Springs
ARB designs an extensive range of Old Man Emu coil springs for each vehicle, using state of the art micro-alloyed spring steel to ensure superior resistance to sagging and corrosion. With such a wide range on offer, coil springs can be better matched to your specific load requirements and intended vehicle usage.
While ride height increases are attained, a greater emphasis is placed on ride control improvements. Further fine tuning is achieved when the springs are matched to a corresponding set of Old Man Emu shock absorbers, delivering a fully integrated system designed specifically to suit your vehicle.
